CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The CTA says there are going to be additional community improvements added as part of the Red and Purple Line Modernization Project.
The CTA said it’s removing the embankment walls between the Lawrence and Bryn Mawr stations creating land that can be used for parking or other community spaces.
The CTA plans to ask communities how they’d like those spaces developed. Those public meetings will be announced soon. The CTA also plans to install lighting under the el structure to increase safety for residents.
“This unique opportunity to create safe and accessible public spaces below the Red Line is another example of how CTA helps create destinations and focal points in the communities we serve,” said CTA President Dorval R. Carter, Jr.
“We look forward to working with the local community to generate ideas for new, viable areas and turning them into useful and appealing community spaces.”
Phase One of the Red and Purple Modernization Project is expected to be complete in 2025.
