CTA trains on the North Side were stopped for hours Thursday morning after a signal fell onto the tracks and caused a power outage near Belmont, officials said.
Brown Line service resumed around 8:45 a.m. after it had been suspended between Southport and the Loop.
The outage occurred around 6:30 a.m. and affected service on the Red, Brown and Purple lines, according to the CTA.
Service on the Red Line was suspended between Thorndale and Chicago, but normal service resumed with residual delays by 11:45 a.m., the CTA said. Purple Line service also resumed with delays about the same time.
A CTA spokesperson said the agency was investigating the cause of the power outage and could not confirm a signal had fallen on the tracks, as police and fire officials said.
