(670 The Score) Cubs great and Hall of Fame second baseman Ryne Sandberg had a wonderful health update to share Thursday afternoon.
Sandberg, 64, is cancer-free after finishing his final treatment for prostate cancer Thursday morning, he said during an appearance on 670 The Score for the Cubs for a Cure radiothon, which is aiming to raise $1 million for cancer research. After his final treatment, his doctor told him that the tests came back “great” with no cancer detected.
“It’s very manageable moving forward,” Sandberg said.
"It's incredible ... It's been quite the journey, but it's all come to a good conclusion here. Tears of joy are happening."
Sandberg had been undergoing treatment since publicly revealing his diagnosis in January. He rang the bell at the hospital Thursday to commemorate being cancer-free.
“It was amazing, amazing,” Sandberg said.
“I thought about it and dreamt about it.”
