(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Police in South Bend are investigating the assault of restaurant employees at Wild Crab Cajun and Seafood Bar, after a large group tried to get around the tipping policy.
When 10 people walked into the restaurant and took two tables, they told staff they were not together.
The staff knew otherwise, according to WSBT in South Bend. The customers were told about the gratuity policy, under which parties of six or more are automatically charged 18% gratuity.
A manager told them that if they didn’t want to follow the rules they could leave.
First, crayons were thrown, and then there was a scuffle, which was caught on surveillance video.
Two employees were pepper-sprayed by someone in the group.
Surveillance video shows the 10 people leaving the restaurant.
WSBT reported that a police report has been filed over the pepper spray attack.
