CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A popular pharmacy at a historic Chicago location is closing its doors.
CVS says the store at 1200 North Ashland in the Wicker Park neighborhood will be shuttered on March 7.
The location is in the historic Home Bank and Trust Company Building which was built in 1926 and is an official city landmark, sitting at the "six corners" intersection of Milwaukee, Ashland and Division in the area once known as Chicago’s "Polish downtown."
"Maintaining access to pharmacy services in the communities we serve is an important factor we consider when making store closure decisions," said Amy Thibault, a spokesperson with CVS.
"Others include local market dynamics, population shifts, a community’s store density, and ensuring there are other geographic access points to meet the needs of the community, including COVID-19 testing and vaccinations."
Prescriptions will be transferred to the nearby CVS Pharmacy at 771 North Ogden, according to Thibault.
Just a few weeks ago, Walgreen's said it's closing one its best known locations just a few blocks away at Milwaukee and Damen in the historic Noel State Bank building, at the end of January.
