CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire is requiring teachers and other staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19 unless they get a medical or religious exemption.

Stevenson High has about 700 teachers and staff and more than 4000 students.

A spokesperson told the Pioneer Press about 92% teachers and staff have already provided proof of vaccination.

They have the same Oct. 15 deadline as Chicago Public Schools teachers and staff.

The spokesperson said noncompliance with the mandate would serve as grounds for progressive discipline leading to dismissal.

Supt. Eric Waddell said in a statement, “In mandating vaccinations as a condition of employment, the goal is to maintain the safety of the school community and more quickly return to the teaching and learning experience that families have come to expect."
