COOK COUNTY, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) --Late Cook County tax bills was among the topics in a debate in the race for Cook County Assessor.

The debate occurred as tax bills are delayed by months following the assessor's technology upgrade.

Assessor Fritz Kaegi, a Democrat and Libertarian Party candidate Nico Tsatoulis took part. The other Democrat Carrie Steele did not.

"I believe what's happening now- these delays are a disaster that's making of the assessor's office. Fritz, I say you're not fit for this office," said Tsatoulis addressing Kaegi.

"I took over from Joe Berrios and he left this office in shambles and our computer system was 40 years old dating back to when I was playing Space Invaders," Kaegi said in his defense.

There has been finger pointing between the assessor's office and the board of review about the situation. The debate held on Zoom was hosted by the Fulton Market Association.
