(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A recently unsealed court document provides more insight on an FBI investigation into an alleged suburban red-light camera bribery scheme.

The content of FBI wiretaps are now revealed in court documents transcribing recorded conversations between top officials with red-light camera operator SafeSpeed and one of the company’s founders later turned informant Omar Maani.

A company executive referenced in court documents as “SafeSpeed Official A” was caught on an FBI wiretap in 2017 telling Maani that she’d been “told to write a check” for then Crestwood Mayor Louis Presta’s campaign fund.

A 35- page warrant affidavit acquired by the Chicago Tribune shows that during this time, Maani and SafeSpeed officials were pushing Presta to have police help boost their profits by approving more tickets.

Neither the company or its executives have been charged with any
wrongdoing, but Presta did plead guilty to receiving $5,000 dollars from Maani, who was charged with a bribery scheme in 2020 involving SafeSpeed activities in Oak Lawn.

Maani is now cooperating with the U.S. attorney’s office under a deferred prosecution agreement.
