(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago dog rescue group is working to responsibly rescue and adopt out dogs.

Second City Canine Rescue has been around for nearly 15 years, finding forever homes for 6,400 dogs and counting.

“You know, there's no better feeling than finding a new home for a pup,” board member Jeff Fritz said.

“At Second City the one thing we really, you know, kind of pride ourselves on is rescuing responsibly. You know, we really sit down and vet out all of our dogs and potential adopters.”

They have hundreds of volunteers who help with the process.

“Every dog is fostered, but our whole goal is trying to not have the animal come back to us because that's a lose for everybody.”

The founder and president is Jackie Cobb, who became a veterinarian after starting the rescue.

They can't do it without donors. For more information on upcoming events, check out SCCrescue.org

Ways to get involved include fostering, dog sitting, taking a dog on adventures, and setting up a recurring donation.
