CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A class-action lawsuit’s been filed against a management company over the loss of power, heat and water over the holidays at some Hyde Park apartment buildings.

A lawsuit has been filed by present and former tenants of the Algonquin apartments in Hyde Park. They say they were forced to evacuate the building complex when the installation of individual window heating units went wrong and the electricity water service and heat went out just ahead of Christmas Eve.

Attorney Caryn Lederer said about 180 tenants were displaced for three weeks and that apartments that were broken into were not secured.

"One of our clients for example as outlined in the complaint-she evacuated with her children and when she returned to the apartment all of their Christmas presents had been stolen."

The lawsuit alleges building manager of Mac properties did not have the proper permits for the work that was underway and violated tenant protection laws as well.

WBBM has reached out to MAC Properties for comment regarding the lawsuit.
