(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A motorist is dead from a fiery crash after speeding away Monday night from a Kane County sheriff’s deputy in the western suburbs, officials said.

The incident began around 10:30 p.m. when a deputy observed a Dodge Durango traveling at 92 miles per hour on Route 64 near IC Trail Road, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.

The deputy attempted a traffic stop but ended pursuit of the Durango after the fleeing vehicle reached speeds of up to 110 mph and turned north on West Countyline Road, officials said.

The officer found the vehicle crashed into a tree at a curve on Ramm Road. The Durango was engulfed in flames, and the deputy was unable to get to the driver, the sheriff’s office said.

The identification of the driver, who died, was not immediately released. An investigation continues.
