(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The man who runs the DuPage County Fair says there are a couple of reasons why the event has been canceled for the second year in a row.

Jim McGuire said Friday it's still unclear whether it will be safe enough in July to have large public gatherings.

Also, he said says the mass vaccination site currently at the fairgrounds in Wheaton might still be needed in July. It would be very difficult to hold the fair at the same time, McGuire said.

It’s possible a festival of some sort might be held in the fall, when he's much more confident it can be done safely.

Meanwhile, organizers of the Kane County Fair said their event will likely happen, but with safety restrictions.
