Eisenhower Expressway reopens after fatal pedestrian accident led to more than 4 hour closure: ISP

MAYWOOD (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Following a fatal pedestrian accident, a portion of the Eisenhower Expressway was shutdown for the entire morning commute.

According to Illinois State Police, the accident occurred on the outbound Eisenhower, near 17th Avenue, at around 4:20 a.m. A pedestrian was standing in the roadway when they were struck by a passing vehicle.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

The identity of the victim has yet to be released.

As part of their investigation, troopers closed both sides of the Eisenhower. On the inbound side, all traffic was being diverted at 9th Avenue. Outbound, the Ike was closed at 25th Avenue.

The closure was finally lifted at around 8:45 a.m.
