ELGIN, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A northwest suburban library is celebrating more than four decades of its art-lending program - which officials there say is more popular than ever.

“It’s surprising.  It keeps being one of our most checked-out collections.  It’s wonderful," said Denise Raleigh, spokesperson for the Gail Borden Public Library District in Elgin.

“Every time we think, oh we’ve been doing this a long time and we’re the only library for miles that has this, but it continues to be so popular.”

She said the collection has 185 pieces of artwork.

Occasionally borrowers will want to hold onto a print past its due date - which is a problem if there’s a waiting list, said Raleigh.
