(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Emmy Award winner Jane Lynch — an Illinois State University graduate — returned to her alma mater for a special visit earlier this week.

Lynch, a native of Evergreen Park, began a three-week “Visiting Artist” residency at ISU on Monday.

“I’m thrilled to be back here,” said Lynch, who graduated from the university in 1982. “I learned how to be an actor here. I learned how to think like an actor. I learned how to be part of a group, and I worked with some amazing teachers — and that tradition continues.”

Lynch will direct undergraduate students in a staged reading of Neil Simon’s comedy “Lost in Yonkers".

As part of her residency, which lasts through May 5, Lynch will also visit ISU classes and students.
