CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A landlord appears to be trying to shame a member of the Evanston City Council into making good on his past due rent.
The signs read, “Your City Councilman for this 8th Ward Devon Reid lives here and has not paid his rent and is being evicted. He now owes $9,506.75.”
They were placed on a fence outside the courtyard apartment building on the 100 block of Callan Avenue and then they disappeared, according to Evanston Now.
Police were called and Commander Ryan Glew said officers negotiated their return without saying who had taken them.
Reid had another eviction case in 2020 when he was city clerk.
The building’s landlord is Marty Max, of MLC Properties and Management in Rogers Park. WBBM reached out to both Reid and Max.
Reid declined to comment except to ask whether the landlord has confirmed this.
