EVANSTON, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Visitors to Evanston can continue to park for free at four recreation facilities, after a city council committee rejected a proposed fee.
Councilmember Devon Reid proposed charging $2.00 per hour for non-residents to park at the Levy Center, James Park, the Crown Center and Lovelace Park saying that many city facilities are underfunded by $200,000 million.
Council member Krissie Harris was among four members of the Administration and Public Works Committee, who voted against the proposal.
"If we start charging for that parking, people will utilize different places," she said. "I know I've gotten quite a few calls."
The city brings in about $300,000 a year since it began charging $3.00 per hour for non-residents to park at the lakefront two years ago.
