(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A city council committee in Evanston got an earful from restaurant owners regarding a proposal co-sponsored by the mayor that would impose new work rules on businesses.
Julie Matthei, co-owner of Hewn Bakery, was among those questioning the proposal, which, among other things, would require businesses to give 14 days’ notice of work schedules and compensation for changes.
She and Amy Morton, owner of LeTour and The Barn Steakhouse, urged the city to work with small businesses, not impose restrictions them.
The ordinance would also require that part-time employees to get more hours before there are new hires and would penalize businesses if employees don't get 11 hours of rest between shifts.
It would apply to businesses with 15 or more employees.
The ordinance will be considered next month.
