Evanston's new pay-to-park pilot program begins Monday along lakefront

EVANSTON, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A new pay-to-park pilot program goes into effect Monday in north suburban Evanston.

If you do not live in Evanston or if you do not have an up-to-date paid Evanston wheel tax, you’ll have to pay $3 an hour to park on lakefront streets and in lakefront parking lots through the end of October.

The parking fee was approved when the Evanston City Council needed to make up a million dollars in lost revenue, when it established free beach days on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.

Parking enforcement is daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Those wishing to park along the lakefront or in lakefront parking lots will be able to pay with coins or credit cards through pay stations or by using the ParkEvanston app.
