(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A former teacher at an Elgin daycare center is facing child sex abuse charges.
The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged 57-year-old Frank Walaitis with six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, accusing him of sexually abusing two children who were under the age of 13-years-old at the time. Prosecutors said, between December of 2008 and July of this year, Walaitis abused two of his students while in his role as teacher at The Learning Tree, a daycare center located in the 2300 block of Royal Boulevard, in Elgin. The abuse occurred at the center, authorities said.
Walaitis’s bail was set at $200,000 and will need to post $20,000 to apply for bond. He remains in custody at the Kane County Jail and will next appear in court December 8.
The Kane County Child Advocacy Center led the investigation and received assistance from the Elgin Police Department. The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office noted that this remains an open investigation and anyone with information asked to call Kane County Child Advocacy Center Investigator Nick Kozicki at 630-444-3184.
