CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Expanded alfresco dining returns to River North Wednesday after the city announced seasonal street closures starting today.
More than a dozen restaurants are taking to the street through Halloween along Clark from Grand to Kinzie. The city announced the 24-7 closures to cars in a continuation of a pandemic-era change that helped eateries stay afloat.
Permits for full street closures are supposed to be effective starting in May, but the City Council didn’t approve a proposal by Mayor Brandon Johnson until last month that allows for some local control. Some aldermen objected to the Lightfoot administration’s plan for automatic permit renewals.
