CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The Chicago Department of Transportation is accepting public comment for another week about its plans to extend the 606 Trail to Elston Avenue.

The Bloomingdale Trail will cross over Ashland and under the Kennedy Expressway and Union Pacific railroad tracks to reach the other side of Elston, under CDOT plans. There will be 14-feet of clearance for bikers and walkers under the Kennedy Expressway and 11-feet under UP railroad tracks.

The City discussed the project that isn’t expected to break ground until 2025 at a public meeting last week. The transportation department said the early engineering phase’s $750,000 cost is being paid by Sterling Bay.

The real estate developer has promoted the extension of the popular 2.7 mile bike and walking path as a selling point of its Lincoln Yards development.
