CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Wednesday marked the start of the six-week fall bridge lift season.
Boats heading to dry dock we'll be moving down the Chicago River twice a week on Wednesdays and Saturdays through Nov. 13. The bridge lifts start at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and at 9 a.m. on Saturdays.
Each is lifted in sequence starting with the DuSable Lake Shore Drive and moving west and then south to Ashland Avenue. A bridge is typically up for about 10 minutes but may be longer for DuSable Lake Shore Drive.
This is always a frustration for people trying to get places but it's a far cry from the old system when the bridges were open on demand with the exception of rush hours.
If you drive downtown make a mental note that it is the start of the fall bridge lifts season.
