CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago’s Mayor welcomes a new class of first responders.

Mayor Brandon Johnson opened the Chicago Fire Department candidate swearing in ceremony by giving thanks to firefighter Andrew Price, and his family for their sacrifice to the city. Price died battling a fire in Lincoln Park on Monday.

"His heroism and bravery and service will long be remembered-truly grateful as an entire city," Johnson said.

The CFD Firefighter/EMT class of May 1 and Firefighter/Paramedic class of September 1, 2023 took their oaths. More than 100 new CFD candidates were sworn in.

Johnson acknowledged the inherent dangers bravely faced each day by Chicago firefighters.

"Our city is strengthened by every single one of you, who has dedicated your life and career to service," he added.
