(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Family and friends of a 25-year-old pregnant woman from Portage, Indiana who was last seen in Gary more than a month ago, gathered at her last known location Friday, asking for help finding her.

Emma Baum, a mother of 3, was about to give birth. Her last known location was her boyfriend’s home here at 25th Avenue and Connecticut Street, according to her family.

He said she left. The family doesn’t believe him.

Many homes in this neighborhood are abandoned.

Abigale Smith, Baum’s sister, said she didn’t have a phone.

“She has been missing since October 10. We have done everything we possibly can and we’re asking the public to please help us. We have put our own lives at risk. We have went into abandoned houses. We have dug in dirt piles.”

Volunteers brought search dogs to the neighborhood.

The boyfriend, who we’re not naming at this point, is in jail, for something unrelated.

Police Commander Jack Hamody says he’s been interviewed. Several others have been interviewed as well. All are considered “persons of interest.”
