(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 21-year-old employee of a Family Dollar store in Gary, Indiana was shot by an acquaintance Monday.

Police officers responded to a report of shots fired at the store, in the 1400 block of west 25th Avenue, and found an employee with gunshot wounds, authorities said in a news release.

Someone the employee knew fired the shots before officers arrived, and the suspect was not at the scene, Gary police said.

" … this incident is personal between the two and not a robbery of the store," police said.

The shooting victim was taken to the hospital.

No further information was available. Anyone with information is asked to call 219-881-1210.
