(WBBM NEWSRADIO) —The family of the three men from Little Village who died in an explosion near Starved Rock State Park last week has hired an attorney ahead of possible legal action.
Attorney Tara Devine is raising questions about the demolition of the old Route 178 bridge over the Illinois River on March 18.
That bridge was apparently near the fishing spot of the three men: Inmer Rivera Tejada, 39; Rafael Rivera Tejada, 36; and Guillermo Rivera Tejada, 26.
The trio died May 6. Authorities have said were trying to ignite a black powdery substance on the riverbank when the explosion occurred.
Devine said she doesn’t want to automatically assume there is no connection between the two incidents.

“Is it just a coincidence that there’s demolition and explosive substance and materials right nearby and three men are subsequently killed — is that just a coincidence?” Devine told WBBM Newsradio on Wednesday.
Devine said it’s possible work was being done to take down the bridge supports that may have remained after the initial demolition.
Authorities have said the bridge demolition was not related to the explosion that killed the three men.
Devine said each of the three men who died was a father, with seven children among them.
