CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Family and friends of a man who was hit and killed by a car as he rode across DuSable Lake Shore Drive two months ago created a memorial at the scene and called for safety improvements.
It was late February when Gerardo Marciales was hit by a car at Dusable Lake Shore Drive and Balbo. The driver was in a turning lane but went straight and was cited for disobeying lane markings.
Marciales’ fiancé Jaime Bolognone was at the scene, erecting a memorial and calling for improved safety.
“Gerardo was full of life. He was hilarious. We don’t want any other family to have to go through what we’ve gone through,” Bolognone said.
There is now a ghost bike at the intersection, a bike painted all white, as a memorial.
