(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- We're learning new details about last weekend's mass shooting in southwest suburban Willowbrook and how the man killed in the incident is trying picking up the pieces.

Thirty-one-year-old Reginald Meadows was fatally shot as gunfire and chaos erupted at the Juneteenth event.

"Reginald, that was my best friend,” says his fiancée, Ashley Miller.

Meadows leaves behind a 13-year-old daughter and 11-year-old son, she said.

"I'm left trying to pick up the pieces, trying to make sense of everything, trying to help my kids understand this confusion, this nonsense. Because Reginald, he wasn't just a dad, Reginald, he was a father."

"His aim was always for the sky, especially for his children, especially for his household," added Reginald's brother, Darren Meadows.

An attorney representing the family obtained witness video that shows a fight between several women break out just moments before the shooting.

"Somewhere like off to my right, a fight with two girls started. Someone yelled, 'Fight down by Catfish.’ Once they yelled that, maybe like two seconds went past, I heard three gunshots that rung off."

Now, Meadows' family is exploring their legal options by investigating whether or not the property owner had a permit to host the event with hundreds in attendance and if nearby liquor stores were selling alcohol past their 10 p.m. cutoff.

"The liquor stores that were on the premises were to be shut down at 10 p.m.," said attorney Robert Fakhouri. "On the date of this incident, they were not shut down. They chose to keep their business open. They chose to engage in liquor sales to those individuals that were on the property located off Kingery Highway and Honeysuckle Road."

A GoFundMe page has also been established to help the family after their tragic loss.
