(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Logan Square Farmers Market is back on for Sunday.

The event’s director had canceled the market for Aug. 27 over safety concerns about traffic. Now, after complaints from farmers and City Council members – and the resolution of safety issues -- the event is back on.

Farmer Corban Koster of Geneva Lakes Produce in Burlington, Wisconsin expressed relief.

“We’re just as grateful as can be that it’s all back and up and rolling.”

Koster said he was obligated to harvest his crops after this week’s severely hot weather, so this will be a big weekend for him.

“We are out harvesting heirloom tomatoes. Early this morning, we picked sweet corn and kale, swiss chard, lettuce. We have some late-season lettuce, beets and carrots.”

Koster works the farm with his father and says the Logan Square Farmers Market is the busiest of the six Chicago area farmer’s markets they take part in every weekend.

“I’m extremely grateful. Really excited about it. I explained before how big of a deal it was to even the thought of losing out on one week of the market.”
