CHICAGO HEIGHTS (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Six houses were heavily damaged after a fire in Chicago Heights overnight.
Firefighters responded to the area of 15th Street and Lowe Avenue at about 11 p.m. Initially, there was one house on fire on one side of the street.
When firefighters arrived, a house across the street was also burning.
“There was fire in the rear of the original structure, and that fire radiated to the explosion to the north, the house looped to the north, and then that one caught as well,” Chicago Heights Fire Chief Wendell Thomas said.
The chief said there was what he called a “pretty substantial delay getting water.”
Firefighters ran about 1,000 feet of hoses from blocks to the north and west. Meanwhile, the fire was spreading.
Six houses were involved, three were vacant. There were no injuries. The cause is under investigation.
