(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Neighbors, city representatives and community leaders gathered in the Back of the Yards community Monday after a weekend shooting left a 9-year-old girl dead and ten others wounded.

“We’ve got to stop this violence. My daughter lost her life for nothing,” said Jose Molina.

His daughter, Ariana, was fatally shot Saturday night when gunfire erupted at a family gathering near 52nd Street and Damen. The wounded included three children and seven adults, including Jose Molina, who was wounded in the foot.

“This is nothing compared to the pain I have in my heart,” the father said.

Among those offering their support Monday was Pastor Donovan Price, who said the Molina family deserves more support from the Back of the Yards.

“Whether it’s handing out flyers or patting the dad on the back, whatever the case may be, these streets should be filled,” Price said.

A memorial with balloons and candles was set up along the street, while, nearby, a car bore the telltale sign of a shattered window.

Police have said the shooting was likely gang-related. No arrests have been reported.
