(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- November is Native American Heritage Month, and the Field Museum kicked off its month-long observance with an opening ceremony Tuesday.
Michelle Brownlee, manager of the museum’s North American Anthropology Collections and a member of the Chippewa Tribe, said the Field hopes to clear up misperceptions many people may have about Native Americans.
“There’s not a whole lot of indigenous representation out there in the world, and we decided that the Field Museum is a good place to get that started, she said.
Brownlee said she also hopes this month's events will encourage people to visit the Field's recently updated Native American exhibits.
