CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — From a mosquito sound bath to a look at vampires in pop culture, the Field Museum's new exhibit, “Bloodsuckers: Legends to Leeches,” will have Chicagoans sinking their teeth into blood-feeding — and the science and mythology that come with it.
Marie Georg is the museum's senior exhibitions developer.
“It brings together both the nature and culture of something that is fascinating, a little scary, but here it's safe and interesting,” Georg said.
The exhibit also features research on horseflies, led by Field Museum Collections Manager of Insects Maureen Turcatel, who said there's one thing she hopes visitors take away from the exhibit.
“That it's possible to coexist with blood-sucking organisms,” Turcatel said. “Sometimes they can be a nuisance, but not necessarily they will transmit any diseases. They are part of our world, and they have their space just like ours.”
“Bloodsuckers: Legends to Leeches” opens Friday.
