(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A new film premieres next month at the Music Box Theatre, and the stars are all from Chicago.

The film is titled Monty and Rose 2. It’s the continuing story of Chicago’s own Piping Plovers at Montrose Beach — and their growing family.

Chicago filmmaker Bob Dolgan recorded about 50 hours of footage for the movie through some of Chicago’s cold and hot weather.

“It’s definitely been a journey. And whenever we try to get sound we have all the wind of Chicago and Lake Michigan to contend with as well,” Dolgan said.

One of his favorite shots he took in Ohio, where Monty and Rose’s 2020 chick Nish nested with his mate, Nellie.

“Right when I walked up I got a really nice shot of them trading nesting duties,” he said.

“I just love that because it shows what these birds put into this and to see this bird that had been a chick — a fuzzy little chick here a year ago — on his own, raising what ultimately became four fledglings, was very exciting.”

The movies premieres Sept. 4.

As for Monty and Rose, Rose has migrated south. Monty is here with their two surviving fledglings from this year. All three are expected to fly south soon.
