CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez is in the running for a new job leading the Las Vegas public school system.
Martinez is one of six candidates being interviewed for superintendent of Clark County Public Schools in Nevada.
He can stay at CPS through June after the Chicago Board of Education voted to fire him without cause in December.
As first reported by Chalkbeat, Clark County board members are slated to discuss the candidate search at a meeting next week.
Before coming back to lead the district where he graduated high school and served as chief financial officer, Martinez was superintendent in San Antonio, the Nevada Department of Education and the county serving Reno.
In his application, he wrote he has a “deep interest” in returning to a state he used to “know and love.”
