(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Palatine firefighters were dispatched to rescue a family of ducklings yesterday and found the birds had some company.

What the first responders found was a menagerie, sort of a clown car of a manhole.

Someone called the department Thursday about some ducklings in the stormwater system that fell through a grate. A group of firefighters got to work removing the cover and pulling the ducklings out, one by one. Each scurried to their mother, who had stayed nearby.

But there’s more. They also found a baby rabbit and a toad below.

The toad was freed and the bunny was taken to a rescue.
