(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Kendall County sheriff’s deputies and Plainfield firefighters teamed up earlier this month to save a man who nearly drowned when a lawn tractor rolled over and pinned him in a pond.

In Oct. 11 bodycam video posted online, one of the deputies arrives to a rural property in response to an emergency call and finds a man trapped in the water.

“I got you, man!” the officer yells as he begins taking off some of his equipment.

“Call 9-1-1!” the man can be heard yelling.

“I am 9-1-1,” the deputy responds.

The deputy entered the water, officials said, and noticed the lawn tractor was sinking and pulling the rider deeper into the pond. The deputy tried to stabilize the machine while holding the man’s head above water.

Meanwhile, Plainfield firefighters and another deputy arrived, and the group was able to move the tractor enough to free the man. The unidentified rider who had been thrown was not injured, officials said.

"It got away on me," the soaking-wet man said after he was extricated.

Sheriff Dwight Baird praised his officers and the Plainfield firefighters for their work.

“Our deputies are always ready to respond to any public safety emergency,” he said. “As a community, we are lucky to have first responders who are ready to spring into action to help others in their times of need.”

Video of the dramatic rescue was posted this week on the Kendall County Sheriff’s Facebook page.
