CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A food delivery company to Lake Michigan boaters that was born in the beginning of the pandemic is expanding.

Dockside Delivery Founder and CEO Terri Evans is working at this week’s Chicago Boat Show to find more business as she aims to serve all ten harbors in the city.

"Think of an Instacart, but specifically related to the boating community," she explained.

Evans said after revenue dropped 80 percent in 2020 at her South Loop restaurant, Windy City Ribs and Whiskey, she teamed up with other restaurants to deliver food to the growing number of people boating the first summer after COVID arrived.

"I quickly realized there was an audience there that needed food and other items and so we quickly pivoted to try to figure out how to attract that audience and connect with them."

Now she has four full time staff - plus seasonal employees - delivering catered food, liquor and even groceries to boaters.

Evans credits the YWCA’s Breedlove Entrepreneurship Center for helping her connect to other black women business owners who she has leaned on and learned from to launch her company.

Dockside will be at the Boat Show at McCormick Place Wednesday through Sunday.
