(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- After being led by generations of Republican men, voters in the western suburbs have elected a new chair of the DuPage County Board who is a woman and a Democrat.
State Rep. Deb Conroy of Elmhurst says her victory Tuesday was not the only groundbreaking result of this week's county board election. She notes other candidates of diverse backgrounds were also elected.
All of these elections are significant, she said, because they reflect the changing demographics of DuPage County, which long was known as a white and Republican stronghold.
Conroy defeated Republican Greg Hart of Hinsdale.
