FOREST PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - One of the victims of last week's Blue Line shooting was laid to rest not far from the sight of the shooting.
A wake and funeral were held Tuesday for 28-year-old former Marine Simeon Bihesi in west suburban Forest Park. He was one of the four victim's of a Labor Day shooting that killed four passengers on a CTA train.
“We just want to help the family achieve closure,” Forest Park Mayor Rory Hoskins said. “I think they’ve traveled from different parts of the country. This family immigrated to this country from East Africa, and they certainly, probably did not see this coming…It's really unfortunate, so, simply, we’re here to grieve with them.”
The mayor said the Bihesi’s family wanted him to be buried in Forest Park, the last place where he was alive.
Members of the Forest Park community helped with the funeral arrangements and costs. Kevin Harnett of Zimmerman-Harnett Funeral Home told WBBM that "when a tragedy happens, Forest Park always steps up as a community that cares."
“There are some good-hearted people in Forest Park who respect the young man’s military service and are just philanthropic at heart.,” Hoskins said.
