(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Former Chicago Alderman Ed Burke has asked President Trump to shorten his prison sentence for a corruption conviction.
He was convicted in December of 2023 on charges he used his official power to steer business to his private law firm.
Ed Burke has been in a federal prison on the Iowa border for four months. The longest-serving alderman is slated to be released from prison on May 6 of next year.
The 81-year-old petitioned for his two-year sentence to be commuted sometime this month, according to the Office of the Pardon Attorney.
His request is one of more than 5,000 clemency petitions pending before the office.
The law firm run by the once powerful democrat helped Donald Trump save millions of dollars in property taxes about a decade ago.
