CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Former Congressman Luis Gutierrez is calling on the Cook County state's attorney to make changes over the way her office has handled the police shooting of Adam Toledo.
Gutierrez said Kim Foxx has let down many in the Latino community and accused her of turning her back on them after an assistant state's attorney said in court that Adam Toledo was holding a gun when was shot by police.
"How could she, who came to office and prominence because her predecessor … Anita Alvarez hid video of a young man being killed by the police and now she says she didn't watch the video," Gutierrez said referring to the heavy criticism Alvarez received over the release of a video showing 17-year-old Laquan McDonald being fatally shot by a Chicago police officer in 2014.
Foxx has said she didn't watch the video until two days after James Murphy made that statement in court.
Gutierrez wants Foxx to hire or promote Latinos to leadership in her office saying none of her top staffers are from that community.
WBBM has reached out to Foxx's office for comment.
