Former Gov. Jim Edgar share pancreatic cancer diagnosis

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Former Illinois Gov. Jim Edgar has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

A statement from his spokesperson says that Edgar's cancer has spread as he and his wife are "facing a new, significant challenge" and he "remains hopeful" and is getting treatment in Illinois and Arizona.

Edgar also thanks people for their "support and prayers."

The 78-year-old Edgar was Illinois governor from 1991 to 1999. Before that he was Illinois Secretary of State.
