(WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The mother of former Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Ann Lightfoot, has died at 95.
Ann Lightfoot moved her family to Ohio as a young woman as part of the Great Migration, where she worked overnight as a nurse's aid.
The mother of four died after a long illness.
In a statement, former Mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot said her mother modeled for her family, friends and colleagues the value of hard work, perseverance and faith throughout her life.
At Wednesday's City Council meeting, Mayor Brandon Johnson asked for a moment of silence in recognition of her death.
Lightfoot said her mother will be deeply missed, but her legacy lives on in everyone who loved her dearly.
