CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A young chef with a promising future and ties to Chicago died over the weekend while running a marathon in Nashville.

Relatives called Joey Fecci a bright light of inspiration and positivity.

The 26-year-old collapsed a few miles from the finish line during the St. Jude Marathon Saturday and died.

Fecci worked at Spiaggia in Chicago and took those skills to Nashville where he worked in fine dining and hoped to open his own restaurant.

Loved ones are setting up a culinary scholarship in his name.

A GoFundMe has raised more than $14,000 to support aspiring chefs.

Visitation and the funeral for Fecci are this weekend in New York.
