CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago police on Wednesday announced the arrests of four men who were allegedly connected to multiple armed robberies that occurred Monday on Chicago's North Side.
Chicago police Supt. David Brown said police arrested 19-year-old Dashun McGraw, 20-year-old Marquise Green, 20-year old Marcus Carter, and 21-year-old Marchelo Hicks.
Brown said each has been charged with multiple felony counts of armed robbery.
"In each of these armed robberies, three offenders would approach the victim as they were walking by themselves or while they were seated in a parked car,” he said. “Three of the offenders would then demand property from the victims and proceed to go through their pockets and their cars before fleeing in a waiting car."
The four men were arrested after a police chase and a fiery crash in Ravenswood.
Chicago police Cmdr. Joseph Brennan said the pursuit began when officers saw “a potential robbery.” Sgt. Syed Quadri said the chase was authorized based on “escalating violence” and a report that “a woman was pistol-whipped” that morning.
Police said the suspects fled in a stolen Hyundai, which crashed in the 5100 block of North Oakley Avenue. They ran off but were found hiding in a nearby garage, Brown said, and three guns were recovered.
Brown urged the court system to hold the suspects without bond.
"Don't let them get out on electronic monitoring, by other means, and then tell their friends I got away with it, without consequences," the superintendent said.
He also said detectives are working to figure out if these individuals are involved with as many of 50 armed robberies that occurred last week on Chicago's North and West sides.
