(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Illinois Department of Veterans' Affairs (IDVA) announced it is teaming up with the National Veterans Legal Services Program (NVLSP) to offer free legal representation for Illinois veterans and their families who have been denied federal benefits.

The no-cost representation will be for those looking to appeal the no-benefits decision to the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

IDVA Director Terry Prince said the partnership will help ensure fairness in the disability benefits arena.

“Illinois veterans will now have even more access to vital legal representation who will defend their rights at the highest legal levels to ensure fairness in the disability benefits arena,” Prince said.

All veterans have the right to appeal the denial of disability claims to the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.
