BLUE ISLAND (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - There’s a freight train derailment this morning in the south suburbs.
The derailment is in Blue Island, an area that’s both residential and industrial. The intersection of 136th and Chatham is blocked and has been since 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
There are more than a dozen railcars involved, including the possibility of one tanker. The CSX Railroad said there are no hazardous materials involved and that no one was injured in the derailment.
The cause is under investigation.
