(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Cook County residents affected by flash-flooding last September have until Friday Feb. 9 to apply for a variety of assistance from the federal government.

President Biden previously declared a disaster following severe storms and flooding here on Sept. 17 and 18. Now, the window for property owners and renters is closing to get financial assistance ranging from grants to low-interest loans.

So far, the feds have paid more than $45 million across 14,000 households.

Residents have several ways to reach out: by phone, at 1-800-621-FEMA (3362); online, at www.disasterassistance.gov; in the FEMA mobile app; and by visiting a field office.
